A Little Sassy Badger Grows Up
"She's really a sassy badger," said the woman who rescued Susi, the little badger girl. She pulls herself up everywhere, breaks out, hides, does every kind of trick, while at the same time looking so very dear that you can't get mad at her. Susi was found by a hiker. A little pile of misery, motherless, emaciated and hypothermic. The woman took the little badger to a wild-animal rescue center that two animal friends had established along side their normal work. But it was possible for Susi to survive only with medical care, infusions and restorative injections.
Her strength returned and also her appetite. Milk from a bottle, then the first solid food ... Susi grew along with her appetite. When she had grown into a stately badger lady, it was clear to the two animal friends that Susi's place was in the free nature. But they did not want to just leave Susi to herself in the vicinity of where they lived, because it was surrounded by streets and other dangers. They looked for an appropriate place to set Susi free - and this was found only after long research.
They said goodbye to Susi with one laughing and one crying eye, after bringing her to the infirmary on the Land of Peace of the International Gabriele Foundation.
The little sassy badger took her leave in her way: She climbed up her stepfather's trou- sers once more, gave him a good nip on the finger – and farewell!
From the infirmary, Susi will move on the reintroduction area and then into the nearby woods.
