Sheep Also Need a Dentist...

My name is Zeele. I came to the Land of Peace about two years ago along with my friends Lahnke und Veena. We would have been dead long ago if animal-loving people had not fetched us and brought us to a beautiful land. We noticed right away that things are quite different here than what we were used to. The people aren't constantly eyeing our body, our flesh, to see if we are gaining weight fast enough. They feed us to satisfy our hunger and not to make us fat and round. And the food ... fabulous! We don't get any garbage, but really good food. Sometimes our caregivers mix in good herbs and minerals so that we stay healthy. And sometimes there's also tasty tidbits, a few pieces of apple or something else special. The people here know us. They know our preferences ane also sense when one of us doesn't feel well...

Dental care for sheep

We couldn't believe it at first, but the people here even care for our teeth! Formerly, it hurt us to chew, since some of our teeth had developed sharp edges and we bit our cheeks with each bite. You can imagine that this can take your appetite away. When an animal hardly ate anymore due to pain, it was said: »It's not eating anymore; it's sick – off to the butcher...« When I think about my former life, it sometimes all seems like a nightmare – but for most of my kind it's still reality...

Mouth wide open!

Now that we live on the Land of Peace, everything is totally different. About twice a year, a lady dentist comes. We already know her and all of us really like her. She's very nice to us and explains to us what she's doing. First she checks to see if our bite is right: whether there are any sharp edges, if a tooth is growing crooked or if there is any tartar or spaces between the teeth where grass has collected. Then she putters around and smooths and files away on our teeth until everything fits. She's already pulled a tooth for some of us. That's a somewhat bigger proceedure, but because she's so nice we also survive that ... After each dental appointment, there's a tidbit as reward. The dentist then says: »Until next time« and makes some notes about what she has done for each of us. We sheep are very thankful for the dental treatments, particularly when we can really enjoy biting the fresh grass without something hurting when we chew.

»Pain when chewing? Not after dental care!«

It's great when we can really bite properly when grazing!

Would you also like to help so that still more animals can be rescued from the butcher? Help by way of »Sponsorships for for Animals«! Each gift from the heart is most welcome.
