Declaration of Animal Friends Pertaining to Animal Protection and Hunting

Circa 300,000 hunters in Germany kill 5 million animals every year, in part in the most cruel ways – through painful shotgun ammunition, by injuring the animals leading to a death struggle that lasts for hours, and still through traps, in which the animals are caught and die a horrible death. The majority of Germans can no longer support this barbarism. The justification of the hunters that they have to kill the animals, in order to “regulate the population” has meanwhile been disproved by experts.
Meanwhile political efforts to change the hunting laws in favor of more animal protection are underway. Many animal protectors have been waiting for years for this step, which is presently being discussed in the Ministry of Ilse Aigner (German Agriculture and Consumer Protection Ministry). Among other things, it concerns the goal of better putting into practice the primary thought of the animal protection law, that animals are the fellow creatures of human beings. Trapping is also on the agenda. Finally, it will be weighed whether property owners can decide for themselves whether hunting will take place on their property or not.
Anyone who wants to participate in this discussion and reinforce the protection of animals against the cruelties of hunting can do this by supporting the efforts described above by signing the following declaration:
I approve of limiting hunting in favor of animal protection. The animals also have a right to life and dignity. This must be taken into consideration in the hunting law. Trapping should be done away with, the term of the so-called “justice of hunting principles” should be reconsidered. And no property owner should be forced to hunt. It must become possible that the balance between nature and animals can gradually regulate itself without human beings forcefully intervening.
